On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at approximately 8:49 p.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to the westbound lanes of I-20 near Bowen Road following a reported auto-pedestrian incident.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the driver of a 2009 Lexus RX 350 who explained that she was traveling westbound along I-20 when she unexpectedly collided with an object that appeared in front of her. The driver suspected it might have been a person.
Human remains were found nearby, and investigators believe that after the initial collision, multiple other vehicles struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian, an adult male, remains unidentified at this time, and the reason for his presence on the highway is unclear.
The driver of the Lexus promptly stopped, called 911, and fully cooperated with investigators. She is not facing any charges in connection to the incident. Investigators believe it's unlikely that she or other drivers had sufficient visibility to avoid the pedestrian.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will work towards identifying the pedestrian.
The Arlington Police Department emphasizes the importance of pedestrians avoiding highway lanes. Crossing highways is perilous due to vehicle speeds and braking distances. Pedestrians should use designated crossings and sidewalks along overpasses and underpasses for a safer route.
