In the early hours of January 27, 2024, at approximately 4:00 am, Dallas Police Officers responded to a call for service at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. The incident involved a collision on southbound I35, just past Woodall Rodgers Freeway.
Preliminary investigations revealed that 22-year-old Elian Murrugarra, the driver, and a front passenger were involved in the crash with a suspect's vehicle. As Murrugarra was pulling over, an unidentified assailant fired shots into their vehicle, striking Murrugarra. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
On January 29, 2024, Murrugarra succumbed to his injuries, prompting the case to be reassigned to the Homicide Unit for further investigation.
Dallas Police Investigators say that there is no suspect information at this time.
