Amazon.com announced they will be closing their distribution center in Irving, Texas. The distribution center is located at 2700 Regent Boulevard in North Irving.
The online giant said that they are also scrapping plans to expand their Texas operation, costing approximately 1,000 new job opportunities in the metroplex and "tens of millions of investment dollars to the state".
Dave Clark, Amazon’s vice president of operations, said the center will close April 12 due to Texas' "unfavorable regulatory climate."
In 2010, the Texas comptroller's office demanded $269 million in uncollected sales tax from Amazon. Amazon then turned the tables on the state by filing a lawsuit demanding that Texas produce the audit that generated that amount.
According to the Texas Comproller's office, the state of Texas loses an estimated $600 million in Internet sales taxes every year.
