A little after 2:00 A.M. this morning, Irving Police Dispatch received numerous phone calls reporting a wrong way driver traveling south-bound in the north-bound lanes of Loop 12, just south of S.H. 183.
Officers responded to the area and confirmed a vehicle was in fact traveling the wrong way at a high rate of speed. Officers saw that vehicles traveling the correct way were forced to take evasive action in order to avoid a collision with the vehicle traveling the wrong way. Officers started to parallel the vehicle, meaning following the vehicle evenly using the correct lane of travel, using their overhead lights, spot lights, and siren in an attempt to gain the driver’s attention. The vehicle did not notice the officers and continued thewrong way.
Officers were able to move ahead of the vehicle and place spikes in the road. The vehicle hit the spikes causing two tires to deflate, slowing the vehicle to about 20 MPH; however, the vehicle continued the wrong way. Having witnessed numerous vehicles narrowly avoid being hit by the wrong way driver, and the fact that the roadway in which the driver was approaching had numerous blind curves and hills, officers moved ahead of the vehicle in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
An officer moved ahead of the suspect vehicle and was able to force the vehicle into the center median stopping the vehicle. The officer and suspect sustained minor injuries from the air bags being deployed and both were treated at the scene. A DWI investigation was conducted and the driver was arrested for DWI andwas booked into the Irving City Jail.
The driver has been identified as Alan Douglas Brock (53) of Grapevine. A book-in photo of Bock has been attached.
