Denton Police Officers Rescue Woman Trapped in Overturned Vehicle Off Bridge

In the early hours of Monday, February 26th, Denton police officers rescued a woman trapped in an overturned vehicle that had plunged off a bridge.

At approximately 2:29 a.m., a 911 caller alerted authorities about a vehicle veering off a bridge along I-35W just south of Vintage Boulevard. Officers Hupp and Lopez initiated a search for the vehicle and soon spotted it overturned in a creek. Despite the challenging conditions, with the vehicle partially submerged, the officers didn't hesitate to act.

Upon hearing the woman sounding the horn from inside the vehicle, Officers Lopez and Hupp sprang into action, shedding their gear and wading into the water to render assistance. Officer Lopez broke the rear driver’s side window and extricated the woman, who was alone in the vehicle. Together, both officers escorted her to dry ground.

Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and treated the woman for non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) investigation has been launched in connection with the incident.

In expressing gratitude, authorities extended their appreciation to Officer Lopez, Officer Hupp, and the vigilant 911 caller for their prompt and courageous efforts in rescuing the woman and preventing a potentially tragic outcome.
