Grapevine Man Arrested for Felony Animal Cruelty After Starving Dog to Death

Vanadus Green

A Grapevine man, identified as 36-year-old Vanadus Green, faces felony charges following his arrest for animal cruelty. Grapevine Animal Services Officer responded to an animal complaint behind the Super 8 Hotel off SH-114 on January 26, 2024, discovering an unresponsive dog on the ground. The dog was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital but was declared deceased upon arrival.

Upon examination, it was evident that the dog was severely emaciated, with an open wound on its head and multiple rashes or abrasions on its body. A necropsy revealed that the dog died of starvation, with its bone marrow showing a fat percentage far below the normal range for dogs. The period of starvation was prolonged, indicating the dog would have been suffering throughout. Additional injuries, less than a week old, were also found on the animal.

Surveillance footage from the hotel where the dog was last seen alive led investigators to identify Vanadus Green as a suspect. The video depicted Green pulling and dragging the starved animal through the hotel hallway and parking lot. Following diligent efforts by Grapevine Police and Animal Services, an arrest warrant was issued, and Green was apprehended on February 28, 2024.

Grapevine Police expressed gratitude to the individual who initially reported concerns for the tortured animal, as well as to the employees at Super 8 for their immediate assistance. Residents are urged to contact Grapevine Animal Services at 817.410.3370 or their local animal services if they suspect an animal is in need of help.
