The Irving Public Library is inviting artists, young and old, to enter this year’s annual Bookmark Design Contest running from March 1 through April 30 to help celebrate “Irving: Then and Now.” Contestants are free to illustrate monuments, historical scenes, or their own interpretation of Irving’s history or future. From the historic Heritage House in Heritage Crossing to the state-of-the-art Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas, this year’s contestants have the added benefit of amazing inspiration all around town, including the life and literature of Irving’s namesake, Washington Irving.
“We expect that residents will get to know their city, the historic monuments and its rich history all over again through the Bookmark Design Contest,” said Deborah Vaden, library services manager. “It is also a creative way for parents to teach their children about Irving’s past and bright future.”
Co-hosting this year’s contest is the Irving Heritage Society and the event is being sponsored by Humanities Texas. Entries must be original artwork and suitable for public display. Entry forms are available at all Irving libraries and recreation centers.
