The City of Irving has been named a StormReady Community by the National Weather Service. The StormReady program equips communities with the safety skills needed to save lives before and after severe weather events. Following are requirements met by the city.
- Establishing a 24-hour warning point (fire dispatch office) and an Emergency Operations Center.
- Providing more than one way to warn residents about severe weather.
- Having a system that monitors local weather conditions.
- Promoting the importance of public readiness.
- Developing a formal hazardous weather plan.
- Training severe weather spotters.
- Performing routine emergency exercises.
