On Thursday, April 11, 2024, the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office declared the conviction of 39-year-old Derek Price from Grand Prairie. Following a jury trial, Price was found guilty and sentenced to 50 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The incident traces back to March 22, 2023, when Price, then a student at a trade school in Grand Prairie, engaged in a heated argument with his instructor. Subsequently, Price resorted to physical violence, striking the instructor with his fists and repeatedly assaulting him with a metal vehicle ramp. Other students intervened, pulling Price away from the instructor, who sustained severe injuries.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, where medical assessments revealed facial fractures, a torn rotator cuff, and a broken jaw.
The investigation into the case was conducted by the Grand Prairie Police Department, with Assistant District Attorneys Kevin Novak and Jessica Brewer assigned to the prosecution.
