Lewisville High School senior Jesus Barrios has made history as the first student from Lewisville ISD to receive the prestigious Stamps Scholarship. The scholarship, which has only been awarded to 3,000 students globally since its inception in 2006, offers up to $360,000 for students to attend one of 36 partner schools in the US and UK.

Barrios, who will be attending Barry University after graduation, was granted nearly $250,000, covering his expenses during his time at the university. Reflecting on the significance of the scholarship, Barrios expressed gratitude for the opportunity, seeing it as more than just financial support. For him, it represents the sacrifices his parents made, the value of hard work, his dream to impact his community positively, and an opportunity he once thought was out of reach.

Active in his community, Barrios has been involved in various organizations during his time at LHS, including the ESL College Club, Student Council, Spanish Club, and the LHS’ INCubatoredu business development program. He has also contributed as a team captain for the LHS soccer team and participated in community service events.

Barrios' journey from Venezuela to the United States as a child has influenced his perspectives on leadership, education, and entrepreneurship. He will be pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies at Barry University starting in the Fall of 2024.
