On June 4, 2024, Idael Marty, aged 41 and from Mesquite, was convicted and sentenced to life in prison following a retrial of punishment in a Dallas County courtroom. Marty had previously been found guilty of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child by a jury in November, which initially sentenced him to 40 years in prison, though without unanimous agreement.
In the recent retrial, a new jury reheard the evidence pertaining to his punishment and unanimously decided on a life sentence. The case was investigated by the Mesquite Police Department, and the prosecution was led by Taylor Willis and Kalle Riner.
