On Sunday, May 22nd, at approximately 11:00 a.m. the Irving Fire Department responded to 3622 Block Drive on a report of a fire. After firefighters determined there was no longer a threat of fire, they noticed suspicious items inside the apartment and requested the assistance of the Irving Police Department.
Officers responded, examined the items and determined that the Irving Police Bomb Squad should be notified. The bomb squad responded and conducted a preliminary investigation on the material and determined there did not appear to be an imminent threat to the public and an investigation began.
The occupant of the apartment, Sharif Ahmed Nour (41) of Irving was arrested at the scene without incident on a charge of Possession of Prohibited Weapons and booked into the Irving City Jail.
The FBI was contacted and responded to the scene in order to assist with the investigation. After a preliminary investigation, the FBI determined that the items found in Nour’s possession did not meet the criteria for Federal charges so the State charge listed above is the only charge Nour is expected to receive. The apartment complex on Block Drive is near DFW Airport off of Walnut Hill Rd and Highway 161.
