The City of Irving’s wellness program, Irving Wellness Incentive Now (I Win), has earned the city a prestigious honor at the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) 2011 Awards for Excellence in Government for the category of Pensions and Benefits. The I Win program empowers city employees to earn cash rewards and a full day of paid leave for living a healthy lifestyle as demonstrated by conquering physical fitness challenges and achieving acceptable scores on biometric health tests.
As one of the GFOA’s most prestigious awards, this recognition acknowledges contributions to the practice of government finance that exemplify outstanding financial management. The awards stress practical, documented work that offers leadership to the profession and promotes improved public finance.
“The City of Irving is thrilled to be recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for our commitment to health and wellness,” said City of Irving Employee Services Administrator Ike Obi. “The award is truly a bonus—the fact that employees have been motivated to live healthier lifestyles along with the fact that the City of Irving is saving a significant amount on health care costs is what really makes the I Win program worthwhile.”
Chief Financial Officer Max Duplant accepted the award on behalf of the City of Irving in May during the GFOA’s annual conference in San Antonio.
