On Saturday, August 3, 2024, a house explosion was reported at 173 Ike Road in Waxahachie, Ellis County. The explosion is currently under investigation. Ellis County Fire Marshal Tim Birdwell stated that the initial investigation has not determined the cause; however, it is known that propane was being used by the household and caused the explosion. The investigation continues to identify the ignition source responsible for the propane explosion, with several potential sources still to be eliminated.
The explosion destroyed the home. Two individuals were transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, where they are in stable condition.
