On August 2, 2024, a Tarrant County jury convicted 67-year-old Steven Brashear of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and sentenced him to 75 years in prison. The conviction stems from a violent incident on March 23, 2020, in Fort Worth.
On that day, a My Health My Resources of Tarrant County (MHMR) employee, who was conducting a home visit, heard disturbing sounds of violence coming from a residence. The employee contacted law enforcement, leading Fort Worth Police to the location. Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering severe injuries. The victim had sustained multiple broken bones as a result of a physical assault by Brashear. The woman had also been electrocuted with a cattle prod.
The case was prosecuted by Tarrant County Assistant District Attorneys David Elder and Lisa Callaghan, who presented evidence detailing the brutality of the assault. The jury's decision concluded with a sentence of 75 years in prison for Brashear.
