The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office announced that 22-year-old Jacob LaTravis Yi pled guilty to murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. The charges stem from a shooting on February 5, 2022, at approximately 2:59 p.m. Arlington Police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of an AT&T store located on the 4100 block of S. Cooper Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Tyshawn Groves of Haslet deceased at the scene, and another man was injured.
The investigation revealed that Yi and the victims had some sort of arrangement to purchase iPhones for Groves using Groves' credit card. According to Arlington Police, Yi attempted to leave the location with the iPhones and Groves' credit card in an Uber. When Groves confronted Yi, the altercation escalated, leading to Yi firing multiple gunshots, which resulted in Groves' death.
