On Saturday, August 24, as part of Saturation Saturday, Lewisville Police Department officers were actively looking for impaired drivers when an impaired driver struck a traffic officer's vehicle. The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) with an open alcohol container in the car.
The officer was inside the vehicle at the time of the collision and was taken to the hospital to be checked for injuries. He is reported to have sustained injuries and will not be returning to the road for some time.
Despite the unexpected incident, Lewisville Police successfully removed another impaired driver from the road. Additionally, LPD reported a total of six DWI arrests on Saturday alone. Over the weekend, from Friday, August 23, at 7 p.m. until Monday, August 26, at 6 a.m., the department recorded a total of 14 DWI arrests.
