Police to ask for public input at Community Meeting to address crime in Southeast Irving

A meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 to inform the community about the Irving Police Department Problem Solving Team’s plan to create a safer southeast Irving. The meeting location will be the Heritage Senior Center, 200 S. Jefferson St.

Even though the city at-large saw an overall reduction of crime last year, the southeast area of Irving—bordered by State Highway 356, Loop 12, and Shady Grove and Balleywood roads—did not experience the same level of success.

“Involving our residents and businesses is essential to a project like this,” said Sgt. Jason Mullins, supervisor of the Problem Solving Team. “The partnership highly contributes to the success of the program.” During the coming months, residents and businesses can expect to see an increase in the number of officers in this area. The Police Department also will be working closely with other city departments, such as Code Enforcement and Housing and Human Services, on this initiative.

By introducing and implementing a number of new strategic policing initiatives in recent years, the Police Department has made history by decreasing crime for seven consecutive years—a record for the city.
