Arrest made in Irving double murder investigation

On 07-24-11, Mehboob Pirani, 35, of Euless and Rahim Merchant, 35, of Missouri City, Texas died as a result of a shooting that occurred at 2701 N. Beltline Road. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. An intensive investigation began and a number of leads were investigated. Witnesses were able to provide investigators with some information including a partial license plate of the suspect vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, on 07-28-11, an arrest warrant for Capital Murder was issued for Ladale Cubit, 31, of Euless. Investigators were able to obtain information that Cubit had ties to Lubbock, Texas and may have fled to that area. The Lubbock Police Department was contacted and provided with the information about the Capital Murder investigation.

08-02-11, the Lubbock Police Department located and arrested Cubit in the city of Slaton, Texas which is located south of Lubbock. He was arrested without incident for the Capital Murder warrant. The lead Irving investigator is on the way to Lubbock in order to interview Cubit. A motive for the murders has not been established at this point.

Cubit is currently in custody at the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office. It is not known when Cubit will be transported to the Dallas County Jail.
