Armed Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting at Arlington Apartment Complex

The Arlington Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a 34-year-old man on Monday, October 7, 2024.

At around 9:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 1400 block of E. Lamar Boulevard after receiving a 911 call about a suspicious person. The caller reported seeing an unknown man in the parking lot looking into several cars and suspected he was carrying a gun.

Two officers arrived on scene and located the man lying on the hood of a vehicle. After identifying themselves, the officers asked the man what was happening. The man sat up, and officers noticed a gun on his hip. They immediately issued commands for him to show his hands, but the man instead grabbed the gun and raised it. Both officers discharged their service weapons, striking the man multiple times.

After the shooting, officers administered first aid until paramedics arrived. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his identity.

No officers were injured during the incident. In accordance with department policy, two investigations have been launched: a criminal investigation led by the Arlington PD Homicide Unit and an administrative investigation by the department’s Internal Affairs Unit to determine if officers followed protocol.

Both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, as per standard procedure.
