Frisco Police Sergeant Resigns Amid Theft Allegations, Faces Criminal Charges

Colby Alan Hill

On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Sergeant Colby Hill of the Frisco Police Department submitted his immediate resignation after more than 12 years of service. Hill, who also served as treasurer for the Frisco Police Officers Association (FPOA), was found to have stolen funds from the organization.

Upon discovering the theft, Chief of Police David Shilson launched an internal administrative investigation and requested the Texas Rangers conduct a criminal investigation. As a result, a warrant for Theft by a Public Servant was issued for Hill, who turned himself in to the Collin County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility on October 3, 2024.

The FPOA is an independent 501(c)(3) organization, separate from the City of Frisco. It is overseen by members of the Frisco Police Department and focuses on charitable activities, fellowship, and benevolence, funded by dues, donations, and fundraising events.

Chief Shilson commented on the situation, saying, "To wear a badge as a police officer is a position of public trust. This former officer not only betrayed the trust of the community, but he also betrayed the trust of our FPD family. He stole money from his colleagues intended for benevolence and used it for his own personal gain. Hill should be held to account for his criminal actions, just as our community would expect for anyone who engages in such conduct."

He further added, "On behalf of our department, I would like to extend my appreciation to the Texas Rangers for leading a swift and thorough investigation."
