Shooting at an Irving residence between suspect and Irving Police

On August 27 at approximately 11:44 p.m. the Irving Police Department responded to the 1700 block of Collier Street on a report of a domestic dispute. When officers arrived they encountered a male at the front door who was armed with a gun. The male barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to talk with officers. Tactical officers and negotiators responded to the location in order to secure the area and attempt to make contact with the male. Phone contact was made with the male but he refused to come outside and would only talk with officers over the phone. During negotiations the male made threats to harm family and friends who lived in the area. The male appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and was very agitated. The male could be seen through the windows walking throughout the house with a gun.

After hours of negotiations the male/suspect opened the front door and pointed a handgun at the officers who were positioned in front of the house. The officers felt threatened by the suspect’s actions and fired their weapons striking the suspect. Paramedics were on the scene and transported the 42- year-old male to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

The other party involved in the initial domestic dispute call to police, left prior to police arrival and no one else was located inside the residence. The investigation is in the initial stages so limited information is available.
