Campion Trails extension open for public

Residents are able to enjoy a section of Campión Trails that opened this summer. The new addition at Sam Houston Trail Park includes a pedestrian bridge and low-water crossings. When starting at the bridge, the addition creates a 12-foot-wide, 2.25-mile loop.

Also part of this project is a trail connection over the levee into Valley Ranch that connects to the sidewalks and pedestrian walkways along Valley Ranch’s canal system. The trail allows access to amenities such as new exercise stations that feature equipment specifically engineered for outdoor use. Additional amenities include water fountains, picnic pavilions and play areas for families.

“This is a major accomplishment for the city,” said Senior Landscape Architect Gene Moulden. “It has a very unique trail atmosphere and will provide a special experience for users. We are very excited about its opening and the added convenience for residents.”

These additions extend the northern section of Campión Trails to more than eight miles. The project was funded through a $1.3 million trail grant from Dallas County.

When the master plan is completed, it will cover a total of 22 miles. Access to Campión Trails is available from sunrise to sunset daily. Visit www.cityofirving.org for more information on Irving’s parks and trails system.
