The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has confirmed a mountain lion sighting in western Frisco, near Lake Lewisville, based on security camera footage. The sighting was reported to TPWD on Monday, November 4, 2024. TPWD is actively monitoring the area, but residents are encouraged to report any further sightings to local biologists.
Mountain lions, typically found in Texas' Trans-Pecos and South Texas regions, are known to travel long distances. While attacks on people are extremely rare, with fewer than 30 confirmed fatal attacks in North America over the past century, TPWD advises caution.
In case of an encounter, residents are advised to stay calm, avoid approaching the lion, and back away slowly while maintaining eye contact. If the lion shows aggression, throwing objects or fighting back may help deter an attack.
Residents who spot a mountain lion are encouraged to report it to TPWD Urban Wildlife Biologist Rachel Richter at Rachel.Richter@tpwd.texas.gov. Additional information on mountain lions in Texas can be found on the TPWD website.
