Garland Police have arrested two suspects, 20-year-olds Haley Barber and Leo Moore, both from Mesquite, in connection to the death of Johnny Mac Ross Jr., 53, on November 11. Officers responded to reports of a deceased individual around 1:00 a.m. at a condominium in the 4500 block of Chaha Road. Inside, they discovered Ross, who had suffered fatal injuries from a knife wound.
During the investigation, officers noted that one of Ross’s vehicles, a 2001 Mercedes, was missing from the residence. Later that day, around 1:00 p.m., officers spotted the stolen vehicle traveling on Miller Road near LBJ Freeway. When they attempted a traffic stop, Barber and Moore fled, leading police on a short pursuit before abandoning the vehicle and attempting to escape on foot. Both suspects were quickly apprehended.
Evidence collected since their arrest has linked Barber and Moore to Ross’s death. Police indicate the suspects were acquainted with Ross, though the nature of their relationship and details surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Both suspects are currently held at the Garland Detention Center on Capital Murder charges, with no bond set. The investigation remains ongoing.
