Family Displaced After Major House Fire in The Colony, Some Pets Rescued While Two Died

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 8:51 a.m., The Colony Fire Department responded to a residential fire in the 5400 block of Ramsey Drive.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy flames threatening neighboring homes. The presence of solar panels on the roof created additional challenges and concerns for structural collapse. Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack while conducting a primary search of the residence.

Three dogs and two cats were rescued from the home. TCFD paramedics administered oxygen and CPR to the pets. One dog and one cat were transported to an emergency veterinary clinic by The Colony Animal Services, but their conditions remain unknown. Tragically, two dogs did not survive, and one cat remains unaccounted for.

A second alarm was called, bringing assistance from Lewisville and Carrollton fire departments. The fire was declared under control at 9:14 a.m. and fully extinguished by 9:29 a.m.

One civilian suffered minor injuries, while no firefighters were injured. The structure sustained significant damage. During the response, mutual aid units from Frisco and Lewisville covered The Colony firehouses.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire investigators from The Colony and the Denton County Fire Marshal’s Office are on the scene. The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the displaced family of three.
