Irving Public Library's Big Read even to celebrate the adventures of Tom Sawyer

The Irving Public Library has lined up a full month of activities in celebration of the sixth annual community reading event, The Big Read. Beginning Oct. 1, community members of all ages are encouraged to read Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.”

“There is no better example of Americana than ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ by Mark Twain,” said Library Services Supervisor Jan Bodnar. “We chose ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ because readers of all ages can enjoy the humor, the adventure and the wisdom that Mark Twain wove into the story.”

As part of The Big Read, several book clubs will host meetings that center on Twain’s work and the City of Irving will welcome several best-selling authors. In addition, a number of events for adults, teens and children have been planned.

The library is partnering with the Irving ISD, National Scouting Museum, Irving Recreation Centers and other organizations.
