On December 3, 2024, 18-year-old Edinson Funes pleaded guilty to Murder in a Tarrant County courtroom and was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the shooting death of 18-year-old Alberto Rodriguez-Paredones.
The fatal incident occurred on February 22, 2022, at Buck Sansom Park in Sansom Park. Police said Funes, along with three other suspects, met Rodriguez-Paredones and another teen for a marijuana deal. During the exchange, the suspects attempted to rob the victims at gunpoint. Funes shot and killed Rodriguez-Paredones at the scene, while also shooting another man in the arm. Rodriguez-Paredones was pronounced dead at the scene, and the injured teen was taken to the hospital.
The Fort Worth Police Department worked on the case, and the investigation led to 20-year-old Samuel Antonio Camarillo, who orchestrated the drug deal via social media. Camarillo pleaded guilty to murder in April 2024 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. A juvenile was also identified as a third suspect.
The case against Funes was prosecuted by ADA Matt Rivers.
