Fort Worth Expands Parkland with Tinsley Ranch Purchase and Rocky Creek Lease Agreement

On Tuesday, December 10, the Fort Worth City Council approved two measures to expand parkland in the city, aligning with Mayor Mattie Parker’s Good Natured Greenspace Initiative to preserve 10,000 acres of greenspace over the next five years.

Tinsley Ranch Park
The Council approved the purchase of approximately 298 acres of ranchland for $13.4 million. The property, located west of Highway 287 near Blue Mound at 3150 and 3450 Tinsley Lane, will be transitioned into Tinsley Ranch Park. The land was purchased from Tinsley-Alliston Ranch Lands L.P., Tinsley-Alliston Homestead L.P., and the Ruby Lea Alliston Revocable Trust. City staff highlighted the area's current lack of sufficient community-based parkland.

Rocky Creek Park Expansion
The Council also authorized a lease agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for Rocky Creek Park and Marina. This new lease will add 292.4 acres of parkland to the city’s system, including 261.5 acres for the park and 30.9 acres at the marina.

Background
Since 1962, the City of Fort Worth and USACE have collaborated on a 50-year lease for the Benbrook Lake Project, which includes Pecan Valley Park. This area features amenities like a 36-hole golf course, a trailhead, and a youth soccer complex managed by the Fort Worth Youth Soccer Association. Earlier this year, the City and USACE executed a new 25-year lease agreement for Pecan Valley Park, expanding it to include Rocky Creek Park and Marina.

The future Tinsley Ranch Park will be welcomed by north Fort Worth as the City balances conservation efforts with ongoing development.
