The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office announced Monday, December 16, that 20-year-old Austin Taylor pled guilty and received a 25-year prison sentence for aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest in a vehicle.
On May 20, 2024, Arlington Police responded to a domestic disturbance involving Taylor at the 3700 block of Shady Valley Drive in West Arlington. Taylor initially ran off but later returned with a gun.
When officers arrived, Taylor fled the scene in a truck, leading police on a pursuit. During the chase, Taylor fired shots at officers before crashing the vehicle. He then fled on foot and hid under another truck, where he was ultimately arrested.
At the time of the incident, Taylor was on probation for assaulting two EMS workers in a previous case. The Arlington Police Department released body-worn and dashboard camera footage of the incident in June 2024.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Matt Rivers and Neal Maranto, with DA Investigator James Desmarais and Victim Coordinator Cecilia Jones supporting the case.
