Armed Man Shot by Weatherford Police During Domestic Disturbance, Video Footage Released

Weapon found on suspect

At 2:01 a.m. on December 14, Weatherford Police responded to a domestic disturbance at Cypress View Villas in the 200 block of Atwood Court. Dispatchers warned officers that the suspect, a 40-year-old intoxicated man, was armed with a 9 mm handgun and had threatened to shoot officers upon their arrival.

When officers arrived, the apartment door was open, and yelling could be heard from inside. Officers signaled to a 9-year-old child to come to the door. The child and the mother, carrying a younger child, safely exited the apartment.

Inside, the armed suspect refused officers’ repeated commands to drop his weapon, responding instead with, "No, you drop it." The man then pointed his gun at officers, prompting them to shoot.

The suspect was transported to a Fort Worth hospital for medical treatment, though his current condition has not been updated. No officers or victims were injured during the incident.

On December 18, Weatherford Police released portions of the body-worn camera footage from the shooting, withholding certain segments to protect the victims’ identities.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
