On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the White Settlement Police Department (WSPD) responded to multiple reports of drones flying near city neighborhoods and federal and military properties, including the vicinity of Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.
At 8:14 p.m., WSPD officers observed drones flying near Bomber Road, Silver Creek, and N. Las Vegas Trail. The department coordinated with security personnel at federal and military properties to locate the pilot-in-command. Additional sightings were reported at 8:54 p.m. and 10:21 p.m.
White Settlement Police Chief Chris Cook issued a statement emphasizing the area's status as a "NO FLY ZONE" due to its designation as a military operation area within the national airspace. “Out of an abundance of caution, reports have been initiated, and we are working with the FBI, NCIS, and Air Force OSI to determine the flight trajectories and who was piloting the unmanned aircraft,” Cook said.
While no immediate threats were identified, Cook expressed concern about the drones' operation near restricted areas.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is urged to contact WSPD Sgt. Steven Person at 817-246-4973 or 817-246-7070.
