Just a year after one Amarillo man received a life sentence for methamphetamine trafficking, his twin brother has been handed the same punishment for similar crimes, according to U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Leigha Simonton.
Landis Charles Barrow, 46, was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday by U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk after being convicted in August of multiple drug and firearm charges, including conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Landis' twin brother, Mandis Barrow, was sentenced to life in January after being convicted on similar drug charges.
Evidence presented during Landis' trial revealed that in late 2022, he sold large quantities of methamphetamine to a confidential source on three occasions. A search of his residence in February 2023 uncovered several pounds of methamphetamine, cocaine, drug paraphernalia, $7,000 in cash, a firearm, and a drug ledger bearing his name.
During trial testimony, Landis admitted to distributing approximately 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds) of drugs for a Mexican cartel, leading a criminal "crew," and carrying a firearm at all times. He was also linked to a murder investigation involving alleged retaliation for the theft of drugs and money in November 2022.
Judge Kacsmaryk ruled that Landis had made credible threats of violence and perjured himself during his trial testimony.
The investigation was conducted by the DEA’s Dallas Field Division – Amarillo Resident Agency, with assistance from the Potter County Sheriff’s Office, Randall County Sheriff’s Office, Amarillo Police Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anna Marie Bell and Sean Long.
