Fort Worth Police have charged Tai Sanders, 17, and Paige Wheaton, 20, with Capital Murder in the death of J'Tavian Howard, 18, during an attempted aggravated robbery.
The incident occurred on November 28, 2024, at approximately 9:47 p.m. near the 2800 block of Broadmoor Drive in the Western Hills North area. Investigators responded to a shooting call and discovered Howard had been fatally shot.
According to police, Howard was in a vehicle with an unidentified individual when Sanders and another male approached. Gunfire was exchanged between Howard and the two suspects. The unidentified individual fled the scene on foot and remains at large.
Detectives recovered video evidence capturing the shooting and conducted multiple interviews that night. Evidence from a cell phone and interviews revealed Sanders initially lied about her involvement. Group text messages between Sanders, Wheaton, and two other males detailed a plan to rob Howard at gunpoint.
During the attempted robbery, gunfire was exchanged, leaving Howard and the two male suspects wounded. Wheaton was reportedly waiting nearby to pick up the group after the robbery.
Howard was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.
