On November 22, 2024, at approximately 8:20 p.m., officers from the Dallas Police Department responded to a shooting call in the 3500 block of Wilhurt Avenue in the Cedar Crest neighborhood. Upon arrival, it was determined that a child, who was riding in a vehicle, had been shot by an unknown suspect.
Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) transported the critically injured child to a nearby hospital, where they were initially treated for severe gunshot wounds. The child was identified as 7-year-old Milagros Gonzalez.
Despite efforts to save Milagros, her condition remained critical.
As the investigation progressed, law enforcement identified two suspects involved in the shooting. On December 2, 2024, 18-year-old Davon Sewell and a juvenile were arrested in Dallas and charged with Aggravated Assault. The identity of the juvenile has not been released due to their age.
Further investigation led to the arrest of 18-year-old Jaden Watson on December 8, 2024, by Balch Springs police. Watson was also initially charged with Aggravated Assault in connection with the incident.
Tragically, on December 26, 2024, Milagros succumbed to her injuries at Children's Medical Center in Dallas, prompting authorities to upgrade the charges against Sewell, Watson, and the juvenile to Capital Murder.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are continuing to seek additional information related to the incident.
