On Sunday, December 29, a high-speed chase initiated by Parker County Sheriff’s deputies ended in a crash and the arrest of 19-year-old Shay Martin Gilbert.
The incident began shortly after 8 p.m. when deputies attempted to stop a 2015 white Ford Mustang in the 1300-Block of Northwest Parkway for an improperly displayed buyer’s tag. Gilbert, the driver, failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens, leading deputies on a pursuit through Parker County into Tarrant County.
During the chase, Gilbert exceeded speed limits, disregarded traffic laws, and at one point turned off the vehicle’s lights. The pursuit continued onto Boat Club Road, Interstate 820 East, and into downtown Fort Worth. Fort Worth Police joined the pursuit near Interstate 820 and Interstate 35 West, providing aerial support with their helicopter to track the vehicle and communicate with officers.
The chase concluded when Gilbert crashed the Mustang into a parked vehicle in the 600-Block of West Weatherford Street in downtown Fort Worth. No injuries were reported.
After the crash, Gilbert fled on foot but was detained by Fort Worth officers. Deputies arrived to take him into custody. A passenger in the vehicle, who identified herself as Gilbert’s girlfriend, stated she repeatedly asked him to stop but he refused.
Gilbert was cleared by medical staff at a local hospital as a precaution before being transported to the Parker County Jail. He was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention and remains incarcerated on a $15,000 bond as of Monday.
Sheriff Russ Authier expressed gratitude to the Fort Worth Police Department for their assistance in preventing further incidents during the pursuit.
