A 47-year-old male inmate at the North Richland Hills Detention Facility was pronounced dead on January 1, 2025, after being discovered unresponsive during a routine cell check.
The inmate, who had been arrested by the Watauga Police Department on December 31, 2024, for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), was booked into the facility at approximately 3:45 p.m. He was found unresponsive in his bed during a routine check on New Year’s Day.
Detention officers initiated CPR, and the inmate was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:53 a.m.
The North Richland Hills Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division and Professional Standards Division are conducting an investigation into the incident, which is standard protocol. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
The police department has pledged transparency and will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
