Dallas Announces Finalists for City Manager; Community Invited to Meet the Candidates

The City of Dallas has named three finalists for the position of City Manager: William Johnson, Mario Lara, and Kimberly Tolbert. Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins highlighted their qualifications, diverse experience, and dedication to public service.

To involve residents in the selection process, the City Council Ad Hoc Committee for Administrative Affairs will host three “Meet and Greet” sessions:

  • Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM – Dallas City Hall (Main Lobby, 1500 Marilla St.)
  • Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM – Singing Hills Recreation Center (6805 Patrol Way)
  • Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM – Fretz Recreation Center (6950 Beltline Rd.)

“These sessions allow our community to meet the candidates and share their vision for Dallas,” said Mayor Pro Tem Atkins. “We encourage residents to attend and participate in this important process.”

About the Finalists:

  • William Johnson: Assistant City Manager of Fort Worth since 2019, overseeing Economic Development, Police, Public Events, and Water Utilities. He has prior leadership roles in Atlanta and Baltimore, as well as private sector experience in Emergency Services.
  • Mario Lara: Sacramento Assistant City Manager for Public Safety since 2022, with prior leadership in youth, parks, and community services in Sacramento, Riverside, and San Bernardino County.
  • Kimberly Tolbert: Interim City Manager of Dallas since May 2024, with past roles as Deputy City Manager and Chief of Staff. Her career also includes 15 years of executive experience with the North Texas Tollway Authority.

Community feedback will play a key role in selecting a leader who reflects the city’s values and addresses its challenges. Residents are encouraged to engage in the process to help shape the future of Dallas.
