Young Man Sentenced to 45 Years for Murder of Mentor in Dallas

Keonte Moore

On the evening of April 3, 2021, 16-year-old Keonte Malik Moore visited the apartment of his friend and mentor, D'Angelo Roane, in the 6400 block of Melody Ln, located in the Vickery Meadow area of Dallas. After spending time together, Roane went to sleep, and Moore took his mentor's gun, shooting Roane in the back of the head. He then stole Roane's vehicle, car keys, and the murder weapon, fleeing the scene in the newly purchased car.

In the days following the crime, Moore inserted himself into the investigation by feeding the police false information to mislead them. However, Dallas Police soon located Roane’s vehicle hidden in a nearby parking garage, with surveillance footage showing Moore parking it there. Further investigation revealed the murder weapon and car keys in Moore's apartment, and a fired cartridge casing was found inside the victim's car.

Realizing the police were closing in, Moore attempted to flee to Chicago by purchasing a one-way ticket. He was arrested at Dallas Love Field Airport while trying to leave the state.

After a thorough investigation and trial, Moore, now aged 20,  was convicted of murder and sentenced to 45 years in prison.
