An arrest has been made in the hit-and-run investigation that claimed the life of a pedestrian earlier this month, according to the Cockrell Hill Police Department.
The incident occurred on January 2, 2025, at approximately 6:58 p.m. near the intersection of S. Cockrell Hill Road and Division Street. Responding officers discovered the victim, identified as 63-year-old Nancy Louise Dowd, unconscious in the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts by officers and Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel, Dowd was pronounced dead at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
Following an extensive investigation, detectives identified 24-year-old Miguel Briseno-Mendez as the driver of the fleeing vehicle. Evidence collected at the scene, including vehicle parts, linked Briseno-Mendez to the crime.
On January 11, 2025, Briseno-Mendez was arrested at Dallas Love Field Airport. He has been charged with Collision Involving Death, a second-degree felony, and was booked into the Dallas County Jail.
“Our thoughts are with the family of Nancy Dowd as they mourn her loss,” stated Captain Shahin Allafchian. “This arrest is the result of diligent investigative work and the dedication of our officers to bring justice to victims and their families. We remain committed to ensuring the safety of our community.”
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact the Cockrell Hill Police Department at 214-339-4141.
