The Keller Police Department is mourning the loss of Corporal Matt Moore, a 19-year veteran of the department, who died by suicide early Sunday morning.
"We're heartbroken to share that Corporal Matt Moore took his own life," the department stated in a press release.
Corporal Moore served the residents of Keller and Westlake since 2006. Throughout his career, he held various positions including detective, field training officer, and corporal. He was also recognized as the department's 2023 Supervisor of the Year.
"He was a friend, a mentor and a confidant," the press release continued, "More importantly, he was a loving husband and father."
The department's statement highlighted the importance of mental health awareness, particularly among first responders.
"As law enforcement officers, the obstacles we face in our personal lives are amplified by the stress, pressures and sometimes heartbreaking work of our profession," they stated. "Police officers and firefighters remain more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty."
Corporal Moore is survived by his parents, brother, wife, an adult daughter, and a 2-year-old son. The department has shared a GoFundMe link to support his family with funeral expenses and an educational fund for his son: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-the-moore-familys-loss.
Services for Corporal Moore will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church in Hurst, 521 W. Pipeline Road.
