On Friday, January 24, 2025, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) captured 30-year-old Omar David Zavala, a criminal illegal immigrant from El Salvador, in Mesquite. Zavala had been on Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List due to his outstanding warrants for sexual assault, terroristic threat, and obstruction/retaliation in Harris County since 2022.
DPS Special Agents assigned to the Texas Anti-Gang (TAG) Center in Houston, along with the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, DPS Special Agents in Garland, the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force, and the Dallas Police Department Drone Unit, collaborated to locate and arrest Zavala.
Zavala had been previously arrested multiple times by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2014, and he was removed from the United States in 2015. In May 2020, he was arrested again by the Houston Police Department for terroristic threat and obstruction/retaliation.
