Dallas Earns Bronze-Level Bicycle Friendly Community Award from League of American Bicyclists

On January 28, 2025, the League of American Bicyclists awarded Dallas a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) designation in recognition of the city's ongoing efforts to enhance transportation and recreational resources for residents of all ages and abilities. This honor highlights Dallas' commitment to promoting healthier, more sustainable transportation options through improved bicycle infrastructure and educational initiatives.

The rigorous award process evaluated multiple factors, including infrastructure, youth and adult bike education, events such as Bike to Work Day, and community feedback. Rebekah Kornblum, President of the Dallas Bicycle Coalition (DBC), expressed excitement about the achievement, emphasizing the importance of this recognition in helping to identify areas for further improvement.

The League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly America program has awarded 91 new and renewing designations this year, bringing the total number of BFCs to 460 across the country. As part of the process, cities are able to renew their BFC status every four years to ensure ongoing progress. With this Bronze-level award, Dallas is now on track to continue building a safer and more accessible environment for cyclists.

Ghassan Khankarli, Director of the Dallas Department of Transportation and Public Works, noted that the city looks forward to implementing the upcoming Dallas Bike Plan, which will provide a clear roadmap for further improving the city's bicycle network and policies.
