Dallas Begins Nationwide Search for New Police Chief, Local Search for Fire-Rescue Chief to Follow

City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert announced today the launch of a nationwide search for the next Chief of Police for the Dallas Police Department (DPD), with plans to begin a regional and local search for the Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) Chief by February 14.

Tolbert emphasized the importance of filling these leadership positions, as part of her 100-Day plan, "Building on Our Momentum: The Journey Forward." She stated, “As Dallas evolves into a globally recognized City that sets the standard for excellence, it is imperative to have a visionary leader guiding DPD into its next chapter." The next DPD Chief will need to have experience in building trust, promoting innovation, and reducing crime.

Public Sector Search & Consulting, Inc. (PSSC) has been hired to conduct both searches. PSSC, the only U.S. firm focused exclusively on public safety, has conducted numerous high-profile searches, including 15 major U.S. city police chief searches.

Interim DPD Chief Michael T. Igo, who was appointed in September following the retirement of Chief Eddie Garcia, will continue leading the department until a permanent successor is appointed.
