On Friday, January 31, 2025, just after 5:15 p.m., the Fort Worth Fire Department received multiple reports of a residential structure fire in the 1400 block of West Spurgeon Street, located on the city's south side.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy flames coming from the front of the home and immediately began battling the fire. While some firefighters focused on search and rescue efforts, others worked to ventilate the structure by cutting holes in the roof to release superheated smoke and gases, improving conditions for interior firefighting.
During their search, firefighters discovered a dog inside the home and quickly brought it outside. The dog was administered oxygen for approximately 20 minutes, after which its condition improved, and it was safely returned to its owner.
Both Oncor and Atmos Energy were called to the scene to assist with utility issues. No additional injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
