Deputy Stabbed During Mental Health Warrant Service in Haltom City

On Friday, January 31, 2025, just before 2:00 p.m., Tarrant County Mental Health Warrant Deputies attempted to serve a Mental Health Warrant on Christopher Loyo at his residence on Twin Oaks Drive in Haltom City. Loyo, who had been arrested a week prior for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, had recently bonded out of Tarrant County Jail and exhibited erratic behavior, prompting the issuance of the warrant.

As deputies approached to serve the warrant, Loyo assaulted one of the deputies with a knife, stabbing him in the head and causing severe lacerations to his hand. In response, deputies discharged their firearms to subdue Loyo, ultimately saving the deputy’s life. The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital and is currently recovering from his injuries.

The Haltom City Police Department and Watauga Police Department assisted in securing the scene. In accordance with protocol, the deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office has requested that the Texas Rangers take the lead in the investigation, which was granted. Additional case information can be obtained through the Texas Department of Public Safety.
