The Garland Police and Fire Departments are reminding the community about the Texas Safe Haven Law, also known as the “Baby Moses Law,” after a newborn was safely brought to a Garland fire station.
On February 6, 2025, around 5:45 p.m., a couple arrived at a North Garland Fire Station with their newborn child. Fire department personnel immediately took the child into their care, and Garland paramedics transported both the child and the mother to a local hospital for evaluation.
Medical staff confirmed the infant was in perfect health, and the mother was reported to be in stable condition.
The Texas Safe Haven Law allows parents who feel unable to care for their newborns to safely and legally leave the baby at designated locations such as fire stations, hospitals, or EMS providers in Texas, without facing legal consequences, as long as the baby is unharmed and no older than 60 days.
“We want to reassure parents that they have a legal and safe option to bring their newborn to a designated Safe Haven location,” said Chief of Police Jeff Bryan. “This ensures the baby receives immediate care and the opportunity for a safe future.”
The Garland Police and Fire Departments commend the parents for making the safe and legal decision, and this incident serves as a reminder that resources and support are available for parents in difficult circumstances. The parents are not facing any criminal charges.
