Two Irving ISD Seniors Awarded Prestigious $20,000 Dell Scholarships

Angel Siguenza and Alizay Escamilla

Irving Independent School District (ISD) seniors Alizay Escamilla from Singley Collegiate Academy and Angel Siguenza from Irving High School have been named Dell Scholars, a prestigious national honor awarded to only 500 students across the country. The Dell Scholarship provides each recipient with $20,000, a laptop, and funding for books through the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.

Beyond financial support, the Dell Scholars program offers a comprehensive support network. Scholars gain access to regular check-ins with academic advisors, confidential counseling services, and discounted legal, financial, and personal services to aid them throughout their college experience.

Eligibility for the highly competitive scholarship requires students to be high school seniors enrolled in an approved college readiness program, qualify for a Pell Grant, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.4, and plan to enroll full-time at an accredited college or university immediately after graduation. Successful applicants also demonstrate determination, perseverance, and a clear sense of purpose in achieving their academic and career aspirations.

Alizay Escamilla, Singley Collegiate Academy:

Alizay Escamilla is a dedicated and involved student at Singley Collegiate Academy, actively participating in the National Honor Society, Asian Culture Committee, Singley Spirit Crew, and Math League. She describes being named a Dell Scholar as a "dream come true."

“I am very happy that I was chosen as a Dell Scholar,” says Escamilla. “I’m beyond grateful to the Micheal and Susan Dell Foundation for contributing to my future education and helping me pursue my dream career.”

Escamilla plans to attend the University of Texas at Arlington and major in nursing.

Angel Siguenza, Irving High School:

Angel Siguenza, a co-captain of the varsity tennis team (achieving this in just one year), a member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), and the AVID program at Irving High School, has added Dell Scholar to his impressive list of accomplishments. He is grateful for the opportunity the scholarship provides to pursue his future in the medical field.

“I’m so honored and grateful for the Dell Scholarship,” he says. “I feel special that they selected me, and I’m now part of an elite family of scholars.”

Siguenza intends to earn his bachelor’s degree in pre-med before applying to medical school to realize his dream of becoming an anesthesiologist, though he is currently undecided on which college he will attend.
