Farmers Branch Officer Narrowly Avoids Serious Injury as Unlicensed Teen Driver Crashes into Patrol Car

The Farmers Branch Police Department (FBPD) has released video footage of a terrifying incident that occurred last Friday in the 13200 block of Mount Castle Drive, where an unlicensed teenage driver lost control of his truck on wet roads and crashed into a parked patrol vehicle.

According to the FBPD, the teenage driver claimed he was changing lanes when he lost control of the truck and swerved off the road. An FBPD officer, who was leaning into his squad car at the time, narrowly escaped serious injury by grabbing the steering wheel just as the truck collided with his vehicle, preventing himself from being pulled underneath. Miraculously, the officer sustained only minor injuries.

The Farmers Branch Police Department is using this close call as a stark reminder of the hazards posed by wet road conditions and the critical importance of driving at a safe speed. They are also emphasizing the necessity of comprehensive driver education for teenagers before they are permitted to drive independently. The department is urging parents and guardians not to allow their teens to operate vehicles without a license, even for short distances, as a single poor decision can lead to life-altering consequences.

While expressing gratitude for the officer’s quick thinking that prevented more serious harm, the FBPD is also urging all drivers to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. They are asking the public to share the video and information to help spread awareness about the dangers of driving in wet conditions and the importance of proper licensing and driver education.
