FORT WORTH, Texas — A Fort Worth man has been arrested and charged with capital murder after an autopsy determined his 9-year-old daughter's death was caused by blunt force injuries, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
The investigation began on February 8, 2026, when officers were dispatched at approximately 3:14 a.m. to the 1900 block of Daniel Street for a welfare investigation.
When officers arrived, they found a 9-year-old girl lying on the floor of a residence while CPR was being performed.
Fort Worth Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and were able to stabilize the child before transporting her to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, the child was later pronounced dead.
According to police, medical personnel at the hospital observed what appeared to be extensive bruising across the child's body and notified investigators.
Fort Worth homicide detectives responded to begin an investigation and requested an autopsy through the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office.
On June 16, investigators received the completed autopsy report. The medical examiner ruled the child's death a homicide and determined the cause of death was blunt force injuries.
The victim was identified as Joanna Shoulder (view her obituary).
Following the findings, detectives continued their investigation and identified the Joanna's biological father, 35-year-old Marquise Dayshun Anderson, as the suspect.
On Tuesday, June 23, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Anderson was arrested and charged with Capital Murder of a Person Under 10 Years of Age.
He was booked into custody, and the case remains under investigation.
